With the speed at which the current job market advances, traditional leadership practices have become outdated. As such, as time passes, companies have increasingly begun to understand the importance of changing their leaders' mindset, and agile leadership has emerged to improve management formats.

Until recently, it was understood that the leader's role was to give orders. Therefore, today, to achieve team engagement, it is necessary to have an innovative approach, which can completely change a company's processes.

For this reason, we thought it important to explain the concepts and principles of agile leadership and how it can be applied in business simulations. Keep reading!

What is agile leadership and what are its principles

In 2001, agile leadership emerged in the field of software development. From there, it gained more and more space among companies, becoming one of the favorite management styles.

Due to its efficiency and simplicity, when agile management is applied, it creates an effective environment and shapes a diligent organization.

Based on the methodology of agile principles, this model aims to form leaders capable of developing the autonomy and skills of the entire team. Thus, the 12 pillars created to guide this methodology are:

1 - Satisfy consumers through early and continuous deliveries;
2 - Accept changes in requirements, even in the final stage of the project;
3 - Deliver value frequently;
4 - Prevent information conglomerates during projects;
5 - Build projects around motivated individuals;
6 - The most effective method of communication is face to face;
7 - A functional product is the main measure of success;
8 - Maintain a sustainable work pace;
9 - Continuous excellence increases agility;
10 - Simplicity is essential;
11 - Self-organizing teams generate more value;
12 - Constantly reflect and readjust methods to increase team effectiveness.

In practice, agile leadership happens through leaders who possess values and attitudes that empower their team.
Thus, the biggest challenge for a leader is to create an environment where people can develop, stimulating their creativity, proactivity, collaboration, flexibility, transparency, efficiency, among others.

Agile leadership and gamification

A Gartner Group survey from 2019 stated that "70% of major companies use gamification in their development and competency actions".

With the gamification methodology, achieving certain tasks, goals, rules, and feedbacks becomes much more interesting. When we engage with electronic games, we feel how attractive the methodology can be, even when applied to company routines.

For the use of simulators and business games to be successful, leaders need to establish engaging criteria, where employees are challenged to solve possible problems in their activities in a more enjoyable way.

Moreover, business games and simulators can store important information about each employee. Thus, indicating more assertive ways to contribute to their professional training.

A successful implementation tends to encourage employees to achieve their goals. As well as to venture into new paths in search of solutions and more willingness to dedicate themselves to the business.

By analyzing the path chosen by employees, you can opt to make new decisions that will further engage the team and bring more return on time management, resources, and thus, on your company's finances.

Finally, with the agile methodology effectively implemented, in addition to creating more competent leaders prepared to deal with adversities, it provides a healthier work environment and brings greater well-being to your employees.
