Currently, we are still dealing with some repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused various sectors of our society to adapt in recent years, including education. One of these is the existence of hybrid learning.

This teaching modality has been heavily criticized, however, in times of social isolation, it became essential to continue the education of millions of students around the world. So, let's understand what hybrid learning is and what its advantages are, even after the isolation period has ended. Stay with us and check it out!

What is hybrid learning like?

In short, many believe that hybrid learning is just a combination of in-person and remote classes. In other words, it would have the same logic as hybrid work, some days at home, some days in the office. However, this is not the only conception of this teaching method.

Also known as "blended learning", this teaching tool came to bring a revolution in education. Contrary to what many think, it did not emerge with the pandemic. This is because hybrid learning refers to any approach that includes experiences beyond traditional classes in traditionalist teaching. For example, movies, museum visits, music, games, etc.

In this sense, hybrid learning has ceased to be a trend and has become a reality in the post-pandemic world. With the mix of remote and in-person classes, activities, presentations, and evaluations, it's possible to open a range of opportunities that contribute to academic development.

Although it has been implemented as a combination of in-person and remote classes, hybrid learning doesn't mean that the "remote" part is Distance Education. This is because this modality encompasses not just teaching with a virtual platform. On the contrary, this platform was the solution imposed by the pandemic. However, the modality goes beyond transferring from physical to online.

The way of teaching has also changed. Digital platforms are important allies of this teaching style. This is because, in addition to already being used by students for leisure, they allow learning to be more dynamic and engaging.

The role of the teacher

Many still believe that digital technologies have come to "steal" the place of the education professional. On the contrary, they are a tool that optimizes the teacher's work and allows them to concentrate on more important areas.

Hybrid learning, for example, can facilitate the teaching-learning process by encompassing theory and practice. After all, with this, it is possible to reorganize lesson planning.

Furthermore, teaching, as a whole, is changing. Experts confirm that it is much more productive to understand the student as the agent of their own learning. Therefore, tools such as gamification are allies of the teacher in teaching, allowing them to evaluate their students in a differentiated way.

Quels sont les avantages ?

Hybrid learning, as we mentioned, exists to add practical content to traditionalist classes. It allows the student to experience what was learned in theory. One way that has become common to provide this is using gamification.

With this proposal, activities can be synchronous, when the teacher becomes a mediator and/or mentor of knowledge, or asynchronous, where the student develops the task on their own.

Definitely, when proposing an activity in hybrid learning, it is essential to have good preparation, carry out monitoring, and provide support for the student to become an agent of knowledge. By investing in this, a serious game enables the student to have more autonomy and engage in the task.
